In March 1961, the Mayfair House hosted the Gone With The Wind party following the film’s re-release at the Loews Theater in midtown Atlanta. The release of the iconic film boasted a three day celebration of Margaret Mitchell’s outstanding tale. The owner of Mayfair at the time was Alfred D Kennedy. He and his wife hosted the cast after the viewing of the film. It is said that Viven Leigh attended the party and held court in the parlor. She had the room’s attention while she lounged on a camel-hair chaise and mesmerized the guests with her stories.
